0201

OEM Boy, This is an excellent question. Since I am on the "I-want-to-sell-you-equipment-side" I do not have the hands-on experience that you do but, I do have a many engineers back at our factory who have dedicated their lives to these issues.

0201 Rework

Electronics Forum | Mon Aug 24 09:25:36 EDT 2009 | scottp

We're just now getting into 0201s and I'm wondering how people are doing rework. Is hand soldering still viable or is some type of semi-automated repair station needed?

Are there solering iron tips for that size component? The C shape end ones. That might be even easier than cutting them first. I would think hand repair is going to be better than a semi-automated repair station for a while.

A real small soldering iron, a real steady hand, a qualified solderer. Soldering skill set is key. Iwould sugest a Micro scope. Sonora Mfg (I am sure there are others)has an infinate scope that you can solder under. aside from that....skill set.

Stencil Printing for 0201 Applications

Challenges: The basic defects that impact assembly yield are bridging, satellite solder balls, and opens (i.e. tombstones / draw bridges). There are many variables with the stencil printing process that can impact these; several of them are listed

SMT parts order quantities rules

Tom, my thinking was more towards base it on size and package definition rather than base it on work orders. If work order requires 10pcs 0201 resistor, having 12pcs on hand doesn't do the job. If it is 50mmx50mm BGA, then 1 extra piece on each 100p

Orrrrr, just buy a small reflow oven, 5K to 7K, and eliminate the paste printing by using solid solder deposition. No shorts, no opens, no cleaning, and no voids. www.sipad.com If you decide to print your own paste later you can invest the extra 30

?, If you are evaluating the machine's capabilities and not running product why do you need a stencil??? Grab a calibration plate, glass plate, or any other board that suites your needs and use double sided tape. It's pointless to do evaluations if

You'll struggle to find low end machines that accurately and reliably place 0201's (despite some of the manufacturers claims). You'll also obviously need to place the larger components on the same platform, accurately which will really cost you.

There's not many ways of doing it on the cheap except... Buy a second hand universal GSM1 with VME 630 vision, 0.5 mil per pixel camera & some expensive ceramic nozzles for the 0201's. This will be quite slow & the software quite awkward but lookin
