Have you seen any solder beading (balling) with the aperture sizes you have been using on 0201 components? Have you experimented with some of the solder bead reducing designs?

I have observed solder balling for all aperture sizes tested. Solder balling levels appear to be better correlated against the amount of solder paste that is underneath the 0201 component terminations after placement rather than comparing this to th

Yes, Pb Free is coming soon... I am studying both Sn/Pb and Pb Free solders. Obviously the profiles will be much different for both pastes. Not to mention that one of my 0201 resistor vendors is switchng to Pb Free terminations in the near future!

OEM Boy, This is an excellent question. Since I am on the "I-want-to-sell-you-equipment-side" I do not have the hands-on experience that you do but, I do have a many engineers back at our factory who have dedicated their lives to these issues.

In reworking 0201, we: * Cut the 0201 in half with a side cutter * Heat the solder on each pad separately and flick the half 0201 off the board * Preheat a new component to +150°C with a hot plate * Solder a new 0201 on the undressed pads with a hot

To measure two 0201 pads, you need to solder two thermocouples for each component pin on different segments. Thermocouple wire should be 36AWG.

We're just now getting into 0201s and I'm wondering how people are doing rework. Is hand soldering still viable or is some type of semi-automated repair station needed?

Ken, I bet ya the machine is so fast it produces enough heat to solder the parts when placed

Sounds like you're killing the poor little critters. Tell us about: * Placement force. * Reflow method. * Where and how you are measuring your reflow recipe. * Cooling rate of the reflow recipe. * How the solder connection to the metalization appear

Hello, who is printing 0201 apertures or smaller and can provide information on stencil design, stencil thickness and type of solder paste?
