Once the machine has finished placing all th parts is there a way to slow down the speed at which the machine lowers the board back to the conveyors? Or are added board supports the only option?

Gee Greg I did not know you have been in this for 20+ years. One would have thought you might have figured out how to design a machine that could sell more than 5 per year. or was it that many?

Not really, if this is a normal consumer electronics, could be no big issue. Anyway flux residue provide ions and the substance absorb water or moisture. If for automotive or space, could have high risk, it depends your application.

Thanks for cluing me into IPC-2221. Though the numbers they give seem to contradict what I have learned from people working with the materials. At least I now know where the guideline for a max of 30 microinches of gold for soldering comes from. But
