That is exactly what I said. Rarely belongs to Cu or Ni :-) Vlad

Strange we use the 179~C eutectic 62/36/2 solder paste as standard in Europe. It is indeed 2% Ag in fact we dont sell 63/37 paste or very rarely. I think if you mix a little 60/40 powder with the 2% Ag alloy this overcomes the tombstoning problem.

Pd/Ag doesn't usually dissolve (leach) nearly as bad as Ag only. In my hybrid days, we would use 62/36/2 solder. The 2% silver helps saturate the solder joint and thus keep the Ag from being leached away by the Sn.

Steve, Two good reference books to have are 1) SMT Soldering Handbook by Rudlof Strauss (ISBN 0-7506-3589-4) 2) Soldering In Electronics by R.J. Klein Wassink( ISBN 0-901150-24-x) Regards, Chris

This question is directed to anyone having eperience with Sn62Pb36Ag2 solder balls for BGA's. Have you seen anything like a rough, raisin-like surface texture after ball attach? If so, what did you do about it? Thanks!

Yes, we did try: built a lot of 200 PCBs with Sn62Ag2 solder paste (we have been using Sn63) and it helped, but not eliminated the problem.
