APS themselves is a good source for learning how to use this oven. Have you talked to them?

Where to start with a new reflow oven

Hey Russ I hate to say it but you switched from Indium for no reason! If you were getting residue then your oven profile was off! Your flux should have burned off if it was done correctly, that's the purpose of "no-clean".

stencil thickness for bga

Electronics Forum | Mon Oct 13 13:49:29 EDT 2003 | mrmaint

Does anyone know of a standard stencil thickness for BGA'S. We currently use 4 to 5 mil stencils depending on component mix. Is an aperature reduction required for BGA'S. If so what percentage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks MRMAINT

Aperture size should vary with the component [pitch]. That size should be the same a the pad size. So, generally pinching is not required. Indium discusses BGA apertures on their site [ http://www.indium.com ]

I strongly reconmend to switch over to Flexa. It's much easier and reliable than FujiCam and UniCam. Except the PCB's have to be very roboust to handle all the security fixtures. W. G

Switching to 62/36/2

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 15 21:42:41 EDT 2003 | adlsmt

I have only used this on Mov assy's, never on boards. If using no-clean does the joint appearance enhance AOI effectivnes? Anyone tried it? The cost would be worth it.

Russ, you are right, I've seen briging on 16 mils pitch on OSP (ref under N2),to avoid it needs more care in paste volume. Easier was by 63/37 (Clean) and N2 (on OSP double sided PBA). Regards Gabe

Reflowed Component Placement Tolerance

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 15 12:32:19 EDT 2003 | Gregg

We are looking at a design that has an smt led emiter and a corresponding smt detector. After reviewing the tolerance stackup, we need a reflowed placement accuracy of +/-0.25mm(+/-0.010") for each component. Any thoughts/opinions?
