thermocouples on PCB - Kapton tape?? or else ??

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 11 10:07:30 EDT 2007 | jdumont

Search the archives here for info. There is lots of posts on this. Short answer is Kapton isn't the best solution. Try aluminum tape or conductive glue if you don't feel comfortable soldering with high temp stuff.

If you're too lazy to search, the quick answer I can give you: ALUMINUM TAPE! Try it. DoE's have proven, that it's the 2nd best method for T/C attachment. The best is obviously hi-temp solder.

I believe the end user is working with an aluminum housing - something like this http://www.boainc.ca/UserFiles/product/JP01-600x490.jpg with a PCB mounted inside. Not very user friendly material especially for IR as its reflective.

Looks like a screen printed circuit using a platinum or palladium silver paste. This would account for the grainy appearance. I 've seen this on a white ceramic substrate but not on aluminum. Any components are attached using a silver conductive epox

Steve, I am sorry for misinforming. Indeed, there is a sort of insulator over aluminum that looks like powder paint. No hesitation the circuit would be completely shorted otherwise. Regards, Pavel

Even if it is no where near the pumps it is probably certified explosion proof. Could they have had aluminum sheets, painted them, cured them, stenciled conductive traces, cured it, stenciled conductive adhesive, populated parts, cured it then singu

Back in a former life, we had 3 products that were PCBs bonded to aluminum boards. We used a PSA from 3M to bond the board to the aluminum. Polymers are almost invisible in x-ray, but ultrasound worked quite well. You should try CSAM. Don't know

Which is the best way to clean the PCB after > soldering? Is it good enough with IPA > (isopropyl) or with the Flux Remover > spray? However, we use a lead free solder wire > (3,5% flux inside the core) and after the > soldering its a visible we

Anyone know what Solder lead use to connect Thermocouple wire to PCB?

Kester makes a thermocouple solder: Alloy SN10PB88AG2 Flux "44" Core 58 Diam 0.031" I have used this to solder thermocouples to pcbs when profiling for lead-free temperatures. When done you can unsolder the thermocouple and reuse it again. This g
