Hi guys I am from India. We are using Yamaha X ray inspection machine. Is there any government statutory requirement for using this X ray machine?

When using X-ray to inspect BGAs, what different types of defects are found, and where in the production process does each type of defect tend to occur?

We've got prototype 6-layer PCB's and I suspect that mfg. swapped some internal layers. Would it be possible to use some form of x-ray inspection to verify that? Any ideas?

Ron: Good news: Nicolet makes excellent machines. Bad news: Im unaware of a machine with the capabilities you seek. * X-ray machines lack of resolution needed in relation to the crack geometries encountered within a high density single material.

First, x-ray inspection machines have a wide range of capilities. Resolution is a key measure of a machine's ability to "distinguish" features. People say that some x-ray inspection machines have the ability to position the board being inspected at

We have both Ersa scope and X-Ray. Everyone uses the X-ray because it's a quick way to check for shorts, which seems to be the line supervisors only concern when it comes to BGAs. The Ersa is fine, but it's only real use is to examine a couple of r

Here are some pointers to use during your X-ray inspection. Microcracking is virtually impossible to determine with X-ray. However, I suspect you are looking for "hard" opens. Those are much easier to find visually. If using a paste-and-place pro

Hi Deni, X-ray will not be able to see through Power and Grn planes. Your only way to find out is: 1) ask your board supplier to supply stack up used. 2) surface grind layer by layer to validate if it is correct stack up. What is making you think

I would look at the SMT Tools BGA-100 scope this is by far the most cost effective tool for the money. We use it in conjunction with our Glenbrook X-ray and get great results. Gary

Steve, You are correct in that X-Ray image of a BGA will not show flux residue. So what? If you are using no clean flux then I would think it doesn't matter if there is some flux residue. Sure if you are reworking a BGA and the operator dumps t
