In the past year I was responsible for developing and leading a Team focused on AOI, Evaluation, Justification, and with a full ROI required, supporting a HMLV manufacturing environment. If you have in these economic times the additional resources t

Hello, I am not sure what you mean exactly. Lead length is something standard given from components supplier. Pretty much all new AOI machines can measure the length and height of most of the leads on a IC.

First, you cannot measure capacitors once they are soldered onto the board. Second, why must you measure? Verify your machine set up by using intelligent feeders (if your machine has them) or a checklist, preferably by two people. If you cannot trus

Hello Baking before solder pasting and reflow actually due to poential moisture development. This is JDEC requirement I believe to do so. We AOI after cleaning so we AOI a clean PCBA

Is there a reason the PCBA needs to be cleaned to inspect through AOI? I AOI thousands of "dirty" boards a day without an issue.

This is recommended by our EMS to make sure flux is not cheating AOI.

I am currently working on a manufacturing flow where some PCBA are processed with reflow oven (after being baked before processing), then cleaned with bath, then passed into contaminometer, passed into AOI. The point is after all of this, if AOI dete

Probably need more info on the PCB and why baking before reflow processing is part of your process, but if you're baking before reflow it makes sense you'd bake before rework. Is there a reason you don't AOI before wash?

Phil, as a rule of thumb, measuring machines (such as Zeiss, View and others) should be ten times more accurate, than the placement machine, in order to provide measuring values (CPK). AOI are meant to detect missing and wrong components, but not mea

Anyone else? This is an interresting question. With 1000PPM won't your AOI be worse then the process it is supposed to measure? Won't your AOI become more of a bling thing to impress customers than an actual usefull tool to improve process quality
