Perhaps the inexpensive program called SMT-Maestro can be of help for some of your data manipulation ? Like Excel it doesn't take gerber directly, but it can cope with any delimited ascii file. A trial is available at http://www.smtinfo.net/smtmae

What do you want to do with the gerber file? Most gerber outputted data is in ascii and can be read with notepad or any text editor. If you want to view the gerber data there are free viewers on the web ie: gerbv.sourceforge.net Hope this helps.

Try to get ahold of Zevatech's "Flex Program". It will convert an ASCII file into the Zevatech Binary format. I understand they don't charge much for this - if it is even still available.
