Jacqueline, Asuming you mean immersion silver: Advantages - Very flat finish compared to HASL, more easily solderable than bare copper with OSP and more process tolerant than this in our experience, reasonable shelf life, cheaper than immersion gol

Strange as we have had huge problems with Silver in Many different Assembly houses. Mainly with Nitric Acid based Silvers causing blow holes, non wetting and even the Nitric etching away the tracks on fine boards. It has been one of the main problem

Pad Metallurgy Used: Copper OSP pads were used for all of the results that I have been reporting. The same design test boards with Nickel/Gold pads are available and awaiting further assembly tests. I will consult with a board technology and metall

Now, that is one thickass board!!! The rant first: If our board supplier changed our board surface finish on anything without our approval, the board supplier would be an X. Life has enough surprises. And of all the flat finishes available, h

In my case most of the PCBs are OSP finishing and worst case of MSD component on bottom side is level 3 (168 hours). You mean that PCB shelf life with bottom side assembled shoud be 84 hours?

If you are concerned about shelf life and handling of raw or partially assembled PCBs use Immersion gold and hope that you don't get black pad, I still love this finish but I have been fortunate to never receive bad boards. If I understand your ques

i think the most important thing to consider is the # of reflows. is this a double sided assembly? if so OSP degrades during the first LF reflow. also there are many studies out there that show the wetting on OSP is inferior to some of the other comm

What surface finish are you using on the bare PCBs? ENIG, Silver, OSP, Leadfree HASL, etc.?
