Solder bridging on one corner of BGA

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 17 11:49:54 EST 2008 | wayne123

HI, I have ran into this a time or two, and what I did before we got the BGA rework station was to run some flux under the component, and since the flux that was in the solder on the other solder joints has at least part of the way burned off in the

Paul, It is hard to tell with the bridge the shape of the shere. The balls that are not bridged look very symetrical as far as the sphere. It does not appear to be over compressed.

Have any paper or data talking about "BGA Stencil design guideline for avoid bridge"?

Air gap on the PCB is determined the pad spacing which in turn is governed by the component. As long as the PCB designer is following the typical BGA layout best practices; i.e no open via in pad, non-solder mask defined pads, solder mask covered tra

In rework, your thermal recipe needs to better mimic the recipe that your use in your reflow oven. Oh, that and proper preheating of the board and BGA. [Yano, if you get bored fighting this, rereflowing the board is within reason.] That you are hi

We are trying to produce a PC Card bus assembly with a 672 pin BGA on one side. These pcb's are .015 thick. I believe the ball pitch is .5mm. The pcb's are plated with white tin. The pcb's are in a 1 X 3 array. We had 2 plates with appropriate cutout

Obviously you wouldnt perform the most difficult rework tasks till last... Sorry. I should have clarified. We rack our units to keep good units flowing and fall out are held for rework. The line never stops. Inspection is inline and it is the deci
