Yes, providing the surface of the via is solderable. * If so, how much paste? => Vias come in various sizes. Boards vary in thickness. So, the amount of paste to fill a via varies. Roughly, youll need twice as much paste as the volume of the via

| Thank you all for your replies. Thanks to your replies and backup from the IPC-SM-782A (section 3.6.3.2) and James Blankenhorn's "SMT Design Rules & Standards," the designer has agreed to provide adequate clearance between the via and the pad. |

Blows holes are usually caused by improper amount of flux applied to the boards prior to WAVE process and, in some circumstances, can be related to the preheater settings.

Joris, Yep, very common to have those small blow holes in lead-free alloys. We used to get them very consistently on white-tin finished boards, and less frequently with gold finished boards, for what ever that is worth. IPC-610 actually allows t

Iman, How long after washing the boards do you process them? Are there any vias or Micro vias on any of the pads you see the blow holes on? A possible cause of a blow hole in a solder fillet or PCB is the escaping of Moisture under extreme temps. Th

Your puzzlement about blowholes in PTH solder connections during reflow soldering comes from: * Boards are hydroscopic. So, moisture content of the board is uniform. * Gold plating is uniform. * Nickle plating is uniform. * Copper plating on your PTH

Here’s what we seem to know: * There’s a problem with voiding in the solder connections of SMT capacitors * A void is an open area caused by air or process fluid that is trapped within a solder connection * Voids are an allowable condition as long as

Hello, I have been recently bringing a new RoHS wave soldering machine into production. Unfortunately, I am finding many of the boards are experiencing blow holes. It is always silver plated PCBs and I believe it is related to moisture ingress. I n

| Hello: | BACKGROUD: SMT components soldered on the top-side of boards that also require wave soldering have the potential to reflow during wave soldering. Reflowing these components during wave soldering is not good. It can cause cold joints, op
