Gold Thickness

Yes you can solder on to it - just tried it with some 0603's across some gold fingers with tin lead paste & a heat gun. Don't know how many times you could rework it though. Any chance you could get hold of an aold populated board from your custome

Black PAD

There is an IPC test method involving a tape test, which you can try for a start. Look at the IPC TM-650 free on the IPC site. Black pad occurrences are much reduced, but I don't believe you can say they never happen, even to the better board houses

Label feeders

Is anyone aware of any manufacturers of kapton dots for masking boards that come on tape with feed holes punched on the side? It seems like it would be pretty easy to modify a standard feeder to to do labels if the carier was punched for a standard f

Grant, The best rule is- "If it works don't touch it". What I mean is check your component datasheet. Max allowed temperature should be there. You know the profile of your reflow oven and the temperature reached during reflow. So if there is no conf

I've been building boards for a long time and have never heard of anyone using electrolytic silver. Immersion silver would be 8-18 microinches thick. Plated silver would be significantly thicker (min a couple tenths - .0002" and up). So you may be ab

Over time, you might see problems with delam., blistering and warpage if using FR4 carriers. Depending on volumes, you might consider using durostone or some robust material like that for the production runs. Keep in mind that switching materials w

Ag/Pd Component Finish

I have question,is this the only Ag/Pd component in your board? If yes then concentrate on this component, I would suggest evaluating other component of the same value with Tin terminations. If I am not mistaken Ag/Pd plated components termination

Hi, Can anyone provide a check-list to evaluate the capability of a subcontractor for assembling boards? I mean a list of items to check like number of SMT production lines, kind of machines (screen-printer, pick-and-place, oven, AOI, etc.), throug

Just because someone has great equipment doesn't mean they are any good at assembling quality boards. By all means check out their current capacity & contingency plans, but also assess their competance levels & output quality. Set a cunning trap fo

Is it possible that the PCB is moving? First try an autoscan of the fids and then immediately perform a manual trim which will bring the camera over to where it found the fid. If it is on, there is an offset drift in your axis or the PCB is able to m
