This is a pretty common sympton when wave soldering chip components. As a note IPC allows for this in wave process. The problem is in the pell off of the wave and you may not be able to fix. Is your back flow off of the wave only present when a bo

I don't think you can find any specs on that. As long as a solder joint can not be broken by virtually "blowing over it" any reading on the UTS, or shear strength can be very confusing. You can specify, though that the assembly (joint) should withsta

What would cause this? Too much pre-heat, not enough, too much dwell, not enough? I am staying within the flux specs for preheat and can't seem to affect it much. Can board/parts contamination lead to this? I think that is a reach but I'm runnin out

Hello everyone, after a short layoff I am glad to be back. I have a question. I have a button (snap button) that is being soldered to a strip of sac coated copper. We are questioning the joint strength of this from our vendor as we see these popping

Has anyone ever seen a bulbous joint (on 1 side > of 1 designator) on every board? I checked the > preheat profile at the wave and have played with > dwell times but can't get rid of it. I checked > the archives and didn't find much. Any help wou

Silicon contamination in solder joint

Is anyone aware of any reports, studies, articles on the subject of silicon contamination in SnPb solder joints. We are evaluating repair of conformally coated (silicone) boards. The fear is that we will never totally remove the silicone and once i

Cost of solder joint rework

Does anyone know the current cost to repair a defective solder joint? I seem to recall a number quoted a few years ago of $1.03 per joint with burden of overhead. I've also seen numbers from 50 cents to 50 dollars per joint.

lead coalescence in solder joint

Electronics Forum | Tue Jan 29 13:06:40 EST 2002 | Sergio Vito - Alan Patrick - Cristiano Dick

Dear sirs, We are experiencing problems with lines of lead formed inside the solder joint. In others words, there is a problem with the formation of the solder joint, after analyses on a microscope we can see the lead grouped in some positions. This
