Re: Broken capacitors

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 04 03:40:43 EST 2000 | jmlasserre

Hello, When we discover the broken caps, there are missing and we can observe only either the 2 terminaisons or a small part of ceramic. The defect is due to a shock during the process but it's possible that the caps are fragilized during an operati

Solder joint strength

There is no standard. This is a relative test. If you wish to do tests of this kind, we suggest to pay attention to the following points: * Shear strength of soft solder depends on the deformation speed applied. The faster the material is deformed t

I thought there was a link for test labs somewhere on the site, but didn't see it in a quick look. Here are some I know of that should be able to run the test: Trace labs ACI Technologies (American Competitive Institute) STI Electronics

Solder joint srength

Continuing, Ive optioned about the uselessness of shear testing of solder connections on this forum previously. So, the points that you make about the elusiveness of developing a standard for measuring solder connection strength is well taken. Il

No one wants to be limited to one alternative in evaluating such equipment. Who would you suggest as viable alternatives to: * Cyber Optics in evaluating alternate suppliers for inspection equipment? * Royce Instruments in evaluating alternate sup

need IPC standards for lead free solder joint reliability tests

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 09 17:45:27 EST 2004 | davef

You're correct. There is no criteria for no-lead, but there none for SnPb, either. Solder joint strength in pull/shear will vary with lead geometry, solder volume, lead metal/metallization, the way the test is done.

Shear Test Results

Dear Colleagues Does anyone know or care to share any information as to typical torque values ( N/cm ) for components that have been placed using screen printing surface mount adhesive, using a plastic stencil ? Are there any industry set shear test

LF BGA Tests

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 05 15:03:40 EDT 2005 | Amol

depends on what you want evaluated! you can thermal cycle the BGAs and the examine the x-sections to determine failure modes at different stages of thermal cycles. you can do a stress test and corelate the # of thermal cycles with the microstructu

Gluing Quality Issue !!!

In a previous job, we had torque off requirements for different sized components for our screen print adhesive (non-conductive in our case). We used a torque watch that would measure max torque, so we could test production boards, shear testing was

need IPC standards for lead free solder joint reliability tests

Can anyone point me in the direction to find some IPC standards for lead free solder joint reliablity tests, such as shear tests, pull tests, vibe tests, enviroment tests, etc. I need to know what the specs. are on all aspects of reliability and how
