BGA soldering & BGA ball formation

Electronics Forum | Mon Nov 17 09:47:25 EST 2008 | cisridn

I would not recommend doing BGA soldering with only a hot air gun. I have done it in the past, but the boards would eventually come back from the field because the solder joints did not form correctly and the BGA would have to be reworked again. I

BGA post SMT reflow?

It's some time difficult to control process when > using a heat gun. What is the intent of using the > heat gun after test? we agree... the heat gun method was an experiment. We are planning to us a hot air re-work station. The intent is to re-

BGA rework

Electronics Forum | Mon Mar 19 08:26:37 EST 2001 | hany_khoga

Dear All: We have a problem of soldering big BGA's (3.5Cm * 3.5 Cm)during rework or repair. With three big companies stations (hot air & infrared) with their support, they faild to re-solder even one BGA succesfully. Note that we workes on a good te

If you extend the pads you get the effect that the solder below the component is pushed to the outside land which results in a very low standoff of the component, deteriorate the overall quality of the solder joint. Hot air (pencil or some of the sem

Adding flux prior to reflow was not an uncommon process on certain packages - a couple of our Universal GSM'S have flux heads for this reason (Not that we've ever used it on anything). What is the component they are suggesting using additional flu

SMT Rework for metal core PCB's

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 05 10:56:49 EST 2012 | davef

The high thermal mass of metal core boards makes them difficult to heat with hot air convection heating or IR. So, edge heaters are used for effective heating of heavy core circuit boards. Hakko and VJ Electronix offer edge heaters. We imagine othe

The best test will be to X-ray BGA under 3-D X-ray. About the techniques used for BGA repair you can probably take closer look to some BGA repair stations, even though I have seen it done with hot air gun in the early days.

Reflow solder microSD card directly to PCB

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 23 11:13:12 EDT 2019 | tsauve

I forgot to update this. Customer insisted on reflowing SIM card directly to PCB, as per their previous CEM. It worked. No deformation of the SIM card - assembly works - records data to SIM card. Note that using hot air reflow type (rework station)d

SMT REWORKING ( BGA )

I use a Liberty Bandit brand hot air rework station and have placed 676 ball BGA's with very few problems. All of our products are now RoHs. They have good product support and easy to use directions. I think this unit runs about 15,000 or so. Good lu
