Connector leads plating

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 10 10:26:56 EST 2002 | davef

Questions are: * What is the current plating on the connector that is over the "plating of the leads is Nickel (99.9% purity)"? * What are the temperatures and durations at those temperatures that you read on these connector leads? * What solder allo

No Clean vs. RMA

IF you open up your TV, cd player or color printer you will see RA / RMA flux ON EVERYTHING! The waxy binder protects the halogenated compounds from becoming active with atmospheric moisture. Self healing is a good way to look at it. However, OA is

Inner Layer Separation from Barrel Wall - Too Much Heat?

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 17 20:23:55 EST 2005 | davef

We're with your customer. We believe inner layer separation is not linked to a heating excursion. What you are seeing is separation between the hole wall and the copper plating in the barrel of the hole on an unstressed PTH. Although, it's possibl

baking boards, revisited

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 02 20:59:23 EDT 2002 | davef

Weve been stewing on this and it just dawned on us the part thats missing. Blow-holing is caused by BOTH of the following: * Moisture absorption by the resin that holds the board together. [Steve is addressing this with his various baking schemes

Part of PCB silkscreen turns yellow brownish

Electronics Forum | Thu Sep 04 05:18:45 EDT 2014 | sasa29

PCB Manufacturing demands preparation of design well in advance. The finalized designs are fed into the systems and the production is carried away. If the boards are of small sizes, multiple boards are made on a single large board and separated into

Connector leads plating

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 10 05:03:58 EST 2002 | praveen

We are having solder fillet finish issue. The solder looks like rough solder on the connector leads .The plating of the leads is Nickel (99.9% purity) and the PCB plating is imersion gold. I have tried fine tuning my reflow profiles an have used N2 i

Re: Fiducials

We have resorted to adding a ring (or donut) around our 0.040" round fiducials. The donut acts as a "plating thief" to minimize the thickness of the copper plating (in the case of HASL finish) and of the solder plating (in the case of solder-plated

Silver Epoxy and CEM3

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 26 12:02:23 EDT 1998 | Steve Joy

Does anyone have any experience they are willing to share on Ag epoxy used as a copper through hole plating replacement? Was CEM3 used? What are the limitations? Thanks, Steve

Stainless Steel tabs in brd assemblies

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 03 11:00:03 EST 2008 | patrickbruneel

As Dave said stainless steel can not be soldered using fluxes designed for electronics. The only way this could be done is to spot plate copper or tin where you want to make the solder connection.

Long term effect of lead free solder on plating

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 27 09:09:36 EST 2006 | davef

Silver on your copper or brass part is a solderability protection. The silver diffuses into the solder and you solder to the base metal, either the copper or brass in your case. Soldering to copper is well known. The issues are soldering to brass
