Hello all, I have a question about OSP. The solder mask over traces leading to SMT pads, in some instances, does not cover all the way to the pad. Of course the stencil apertures do not include traces. After the SMT and reflow process, there is visib

Is it OK? Is it OK? => We have no earthly idea if this will shorten the life of your product. We dont know your product from a shoebox. ;-) Seriously, exposed basis metal could have a variety of effects, depending on the product design and end

Why scrap paste if there is no degradation of performance? Do your own study to determine this.

Outside the MSD issues stated already (and I cannot provide a exact time not knowing multiple factors like Humidity levels, temps, exposure times, etc...) OSP might be the very worst finish to use in this scenario of side 1 / store on a shelf / side

Hi The other thing the Ni does is to create a time barrier for the underlying copper (Cu) migration into the joint. Degradation still occurs yet it is slowed significantly. Diffusion Equations under, electonic current pressures across time, are inv

More eloquence and cowardice. In the words of Dave F "what a maroon!" Another noname without the intelligence or conviction to offer a good response or even a name. And the forum continues its self degradation. Pompous MoonAssMan Boogie

Thank you for the feedback guys. The concerns I have is related to components' performance as well as chipped-off & cracks. Does the performance also degrading over the time? thx

Tantalum caps degrade over time. You should not be seeing "chipped-off & cracks" regardless of the age. This should not be a shelf-life issue, unless you are storing them in an aquarium. Tell us the story. Solderability is a shelf-life issue and

Rather than meausre the stencil, why not measure it's output. The stencils function is to gage the right amount of solder in the right location. If you are measuring paste volume and you are tracking via SPC, you will begin to see a degradation when
