Strange finish on the pads? So no solder left on the pad? Pad on the board or pad on the part? Does the jig go through the oven with the board? If so I would recommend sacrificing a board and drilling a hole in the bottom to have a thermocouple at th

They don't look that bad, especially for SN100. There is evidence of wetting on the toe and the paste on the pad seems to have reflowed properly. What does the heal look like? That's the more critical part of the solder joint for Gull leaded parts.

BGA opens

I have several boards built at various CM's. We have prototype builds with some JTAG failures on BGA's (1-3 failures with qty 3, 1500 pin BGA's). CM's always claim reflow profiles look good. X-ray does not show bridges and they claim it looks good, b

| | Dear John/Earl | | | | Thanks for your clarifications. To me also the problem does not seem to be linked with the PCB. The Pre heater temp. is set at | | 450 degree C. We are using Alpha Aq. cleanable flux. Can you elaborate on the Desired

Re: Double-sided reflow with BGA??? Can it be done?

| | | I was wanting to know if double sided reflow can be done with a metal plated BGA on topside. We would be running bottom side first. My boss seems to think the only way it can be done is by placing glue dots on the bottomside compoents becaus

Let me see if I've got this straight...rather than hook up a MOLE or a KIC profiler to each and every board (600 P/N's in my case), most people are making judgement calls based solely on how similar a board looks to another board, for which they have

Wave flux and profiling

Hi, I have noticed we are getting residue on our wave pcb's and it's worse with lead free, since we changed to the flux we are using. We are currently using Avantec VOC Free flux model Ecofree 303. It looks like it's made in Malaysia. Does anyone h

I like MpM personally - run forever and programming is easy and leads you through it. It's hard to miss a step of programming with MpM software. DEK's a little harder (for me) but still very nice controls. The pluses of DEK - DEK has a high freque

Batch Ovens

Jay, I work for a company that manufactures batch reflow ovens however, I will try to be as subjective as possible. For the most part, what others have posted is true. Yes, there is one heating chamber and if the heater does not have enough power
