Re: Stencil Aperture Reduction Guidelines

Electronics Forum | Fri Dec 17 18:31:29 EST 1999 | Calvin Wong

One thing we found out when we did new stencil is this, you reduce the stencil aperture by 10% is actually based on the Gerber. Please note also that the PCB supplier also makes the PCB according to the Gerber and there is a reduction on the pads as

Larry, What has been removed from the machine lately. Most bearings don't just fall apart while running without giving some type of warning. My experiance with LM bearings is they usually don't just fall out, most cases the bearing block was removed

Re: Wave soldering smt components

KA, Joshua makes a good point. A wave solder fixture will allow you to process your double-sided boards without having to add the epoxy step. The one time fixed cost of a fixture is quickly offset by the time that you save by not gluing your SMT.

Solder Wetting

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 14 12:00:34 EST 1999 | Kris Wiederhold

We recently reduced our standard aperture reduction to aid in the reduction of solder on gold defects. Since this reduction in aperture size, we have been experiencing exposed copper at the end of the component pads. The heel and toe joints are per

John, I have never seen black pad covering a majority of the board, that would be a scarry thought. I think he is talking about building modules (sims dims) and getting soldering spatering on the gold edge connectors. We went the rounds with that s

Insufficient solder joint

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 14 10:36:42 EST 1999 | Paul Peterson

I recently encountered reflow soldering defects on a pair diode package, the smd pad had a green contamination, I'm convinced that this is not oxidation. The no-solder condition appears to be caused by a sloppy soldermask process, although over the y

I think you're on the right track Paul. You didn't mention what type of solder mask was used but I'll presume that it was LPI (liquid photo imagable). If development of the image is incomplete some mask can remain where it is unwanted. Sometimes im

Solder Balling Beading Effect

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 13 18:17:44 EST 1999 | Calvin Wong

We have this solder ball & beads around chip components since day one of manufacturing using non-clean process. We managed to eliminate the solder beads around ceramic type chip componenets when we have a slow ramp up of pre heat at solder reflow. Ho

A small waste of time

What's this about a minimum wage for drivel? 1 cent is where it's at! Competetive preassure in the marketplace will improve the quality of drivel for all! That is unless the 'You get what you pay for' law is invoked, then high priced drivel will d
