We tried restoring the Machine Configuration, Mapping, and Calibration data from after the calibration done last year. The error was still present after the restore and restart.

Usually, that type of error is comming from a damage HDD Corrupted sector or something similar You can reload the firmware but don't forget to backup everything, specially the calibration & mapping files

No, it wasn't error checking. It was data that was not present in the sample files so all the bytes were null. Very hard to know what should go there unless you have a spec. There's no error checking in this file. Every byte position represents some
