No-Clean flux residue from Secondary Ops

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 23 12:59:12 EDT 2013 | pauldavis4

New pcba supplier sent us first article pcbas (SMT, Wave & hand solder operations) that failed our testing due to no-clean flux residues found under ICs and around passive capacitors. Second lot came in and had 100% pass yield, but we still see a cl

ROSE testing for no-clean flux soldering assemblies

Electronics Forum | Mon Aug 19 13:32:54 EDT 2019 | aqueous

ROSE testing a post-reflow assembly which has been reflowed using no-clean flux may not yield information that is helpful. No-clean flux technology works by encapsulating the flux's activators and other chemical constitutes that would be harmful if l

BGA Soldering

Electronics Forum | Mon Nov 01 07:39:49 EST 2004 | Bob R.

Yes, you can place a BGA in flux and get good reflow. However, depending on BGA type and size you should expect a yield loss due to coplanarity issues. Having the paste on the pad definately helps your yield.

Ladies and Gents: There have been several studies including (http://www.solder.net/PDFs/LeadFree_BGATesting_InitialCycling_BEST.pdf) which have shown lower fast pass yields with solder paste. Based on internal projects of 1000+ of the same BGAs we a

1. Most ionic testing is measured in NaCl, that is, the ionic residues are quantified in terms of NaCl equivalence. The test does not determine what the ionic residue is, just its relative strengh. 2. I use IPC cleanliness specs on OA fluxes but n

RMA vs No clean

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 16 05:42:18 EST 2003 | nifhail

I've a query. I have one new Customer whom insisted us to use RMA paste on their product. The problem is, on some of their products they use via hole as the test point in where all the PCB finished are ENTEK and as usual I have to print solder paste

expired solder paste

Electronics Forum | Thu Apr 03 22:56:48 EDT 2008 | davef

Potential impacts of using expired solder paste are [University of Bolton]: * Changed paste rheology. Result: poor print quality * Loss of solvents. Result: reduced flux activity * Changed flux formulation. Result: More difficult to clean flux residu

Cleaning of PCBA's

Electronics Forum | Thu Apr 14 13:10:49 EDT 2005 | Shean Dalton

Hi John, A primary consideration is the type of flux you are using. If it's water soluble (organic acid) then cleaning is highly recommended. Any other flux that fails the copper mirror test, we'd strongly recommend cleaning. Passing the copper m

IC marking unclear after pass reflow

Thank you for kindness advice. From the result of IC after pass the reflow process. The color of letter will change to similar color of material compound of IC. Then when we inspection by AOI machine, we have many problem about high fault reject rate
