To all smt neters, In many different threads I have tried to bring awareness of the dangers lead free alloys pose to the reliability of solder connections. Many times those warnings have been waved by unscientific reports (from lead free solder manu

Can anyone recomend tools for cleaning & adjusting of a lead free solder pot? I know it's not recomended to use the standard stainless tools. I was told by an FSE to use wood (kitchen) tools. Thanks

Back in the day, we had a small solder pot used for dipping ICs that were freshly removed from defective boards. What tool did we use to clean the dross? A small piece of card board. After the card board got too toasted, we'd grab a new piece of c

Well, then use what the FSE and equipment manufacturer reccomends.

Well if I thought using wood tools was a good idea I would not have posted the question. Since the flash point of paper is 451F I would assum wood would be close? I guess I should have asked does anyone know of any tools kits or come up with there ow

Yeah, made from Durostone or Delmat would be perfect. Try buying some pieces and have them machined into tools or DIY. This is the same material that solder pallets are made from. http://www.boedeker.com/durost_p.htm http://www.polymerplastics.com/

I have experienced this directly in SMT and wave solder. Fillet lift (can) be a direct indicator to lead enrichment (but its not the exclusive symptom). Lead enrichment in smt joints reduces the interfacial strength shortening the time to creep f

We are changing /adding a lead free wave. This will either be a conversion of a leaded wave or a new purchase. Nitrogen seems to be a necessity in selective soldering lead free, should I presume the same for a wave process? I am interested in first h

I have no experience, but you can find some possible tricks to upgrade your wave machine into a good lead free one at: http://www.comtreeinc.com/documents/lead-free-wave-soldering.pdf

Hi People I will need some help on basic things really, we are replacing the existing solder pot with a lead free capable solder pot, but what are the other parameters that we need to look in to, to be able to achieve good quality soldering on the sa
