Can anyone give me some insight into what to look for on a used X-Ray machine. Or just any thoughts on using X-Ray inspection. We are getting more and more QFNs and our inspection seems a little subjective. Thanks.

Smaller and multi-row QFNs will probably require an oblique view/5-axis xray with resolution of at least 1 micrometer and preferably a nanofocus machine. Given the low standoff and small pad size, verifying wetting can be challenging on interior pad

The format is X,Y Theta of the component center for all placement machines. Gerber data can be useless, unless you have the reference from pin 1 to the component center. Some machines offer a CAD convertion tool. I don't know any machine, which can

Generally QC is a different deptpartment than touch-up people. Most touch-up people are just general operators, so to keep their job they always see the solder joint as "not enough". Q.C. people are generally a bit better, but know they may be call

There is no IPC requirement for reworking BGA with either paste or just flux. While we generally use flux only, general consensus is that both methods work equally well. Adding solder paste, while more difficult, should result in larger package stand
