Defect Per Unit (DPU) versus DPMO

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 30 06:58:24 EDT 2007 | ck_the_flip

Alot of QM's and QE's are typically failed Engineers who lack common sense. They don't understand that measuring in DPMO's (versus DPU's) "normalizes" your data for Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA's) so that if you have 10 defects on a PCBA t

To use a mini stencil, or not to use a mini stencil.

Ewwww metal mini stencils? Try http://www.circuitmedic.com/products/stencils.shtml We use their flextac stencils all the time and they work perfect. You can get a couple uses out of each of them if youre careful too. Just line it up under a scope and

To use a mini stencil, or not to use a mini stencil.

We have had issues with using the ones from Best. The holes are not always cut correctly and the edges (inside the holes) are not well defined because of the kapton material they use maybe. Plus you leave the mini stencil on the PCB under the BGA whi

Starting SMT home company.

I just purchased some PACE ST-25 systems for basic soldering and they work great. It was a deal at $155 each and they heat up FAST! Tips are around $6 each so the whole system is affordable. A step up for rework jobs would be the Metcal MX systems.

How long can you leave paste - update

Hand up here too. While most pastes have some flexibility and you may get by without too many problems, I don't think any of them are designed with long wait times in mind. What I'm confused about is what your operator is doing when boards ARE runni

"I just need better reasons than it [...] increases defect probability." If that's not enough, you have bigger problems. Have you seen any rework/repair that was generated by this handling gem? Does your company profess to build to IPC specificati

Leadfree assembly

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 10 14:35:52 EDT 2007 | UT

We are in middle to prototyping a lead free assembly for one of our customers. We are using lead free bare PCBs, consumables and components, except for two ICs which are leaded per the customer BOM. Will the overall assembly be defined as lead free p

Leadfree assembly

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 10 17:44:50 EDT 2007 | Anon Y. Mous - Senior SMT Superczar and Process Guy

One of our customers had us building "Pb-free" assemblies with a few Sn/Pb parts on them. THEY got rolling too slowly and we were not able to bring in the required Pb-free components due to lead-time (not Pb-time) issues. When they started requesti

Visual alignment problems on BGA's for QSV-1

Hi all! We are placing BGA's using a QSV-1 pck and place machine. I believe our profile has the correct information but we continue to get vision results not available when we inspect the part. Our screen appears as follows: NO RESULTS AVAILABLE PAR

SMT fuse clips

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 13 08:02:59 EDT 2007 | maclites

I can post that info when we get it from our design team. All we have right now is a drawing and a BOM calling out "mini fuse" of 5 different values. The clip/socket is not called out at all, but going by the shape on the asembly drawing & mask lay
