Addressing the issue "Will cutting change the readings?" Very Very Doubtful. Here is a link to a helpful guide. http://www.omega.com/techref/ Enjoy, cal

thermocouple attachment solder

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 01 16:41:13 EDT 2007 | slthomas

That might be the stuff. I think what baffles me is that it was readily available and packaged as "thermocouple attachment solder" or some such description, but they apparently don't seem to have it available by that name. It's not a critical issue,

NADCAP and thermocouple calibration

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 08 19:20:08 EDT 2013 | hegemon

I too am hoping a NADCAP guy might jump in here. I would like to know how this portion of the question is handled. Evidence of PM, periodic cleaning of EQ and tools, no issues. Thermocouple calibration? You would think that evidence of Oven CAL

Solder joint issue

Electronics Forum | Thu May 18 11:27:36 EDT 2006 | patrickbruneel

I'm not on the production floor on a daily basis like the other guys here but here's my 2 cents: With a Ni/Au plating the inter-metallic that needs to be formed is Ni/Sn. Ni/Sn inter-metallic requires higher peak assembly temperature and a longer dwe

Unusual solderability issue

Electronics Forum | Mon Apr 19 11:04:21 EDT 2010 | baildl632

We have had some unusual reflow conditions with BGA's as well. We did not come to the conclusion that something was covering the lands though. It typically occured with only the BGA lands (not the decoupling caps on the back side). We found that the

Solder joint issue

Hypothesis #1: We agree with Steve. You are probably seeing the nickel underplate. The gold was absorbed into the solder in portions of a second, so that you don't see it is not surprising. We're guessing that the gold was porous and allowed the n

25 mil QFP soldering issue

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 19 19:39:06 EDT 2004 | KEN

I once had a forced convection oven (insert brand here)...and the top 220VAC heater (reflow zone) had shorted to the frame ground, blowing the branch line fuses. THe machine had no idea the heater was out because the lower heater was heating the upp

Package on Package BGA Components any issue in SMT?

Electronics Forum | Wed Mar 14 16:23:01 EDT 2007 | J

I am not sure Ersascope and X-Ray will tell you the results you are looking for. My experience with x-ray has proven that misalignment, voids, and bridging are really the only failures that can confidently be observed. You may have solder in place,

Gold Flow Oven GF-12 Tuning Instructions Needed

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 01 10:33:38 EST 2015 | jackm

I have a Gold-Flow GF-12 reflow oven. When entering "Work" mode, I get a screen that says that the oven needs to be tuned first. I am able to start the autotuning process (found the password on SMTnet), but the unit just seems to run forever in that

Lead Free Delta T (reflow 7 zones)

Electronics Forum | Mon Mar 13 10:56:37 EST 2006 | Bob R.

I would try swapping the hottest & coolest thermocouples where they go into the mole and see if temp readings follows the thermocouples or stays with the mole input. A 40 deg delta T on a board that small really sounds like a measurement issue.
