Hi All, I have to solder a device with platinum clad nickel leads to a PCB. I am having a hard time getting solder to flow on to the leads. Are there special proceedures that I need to follow because of the platinum or am I just dealing with contamin

Testing for hard gold

You might consider to contact a lab to Run a microindenter against a know good soft gold sample. The knoop value for the soft gold will be much lower than for hard gold. This would be reflected in the diameter measurement of the indented samples.Smal

Looking for advice on soldering lead free paste to a board with very heavy gold plating. I have learned from the Customer that this is HARD GOLD and that it is 10-20 Micro Inches Hard Gold over 100 Micro inches of Nickel. When we reflowed the solde

soldering to hard gold plated PCBs

Does anyone know if I will have problems soldering surface mount components to an all hard gold plated PC board. We want to use hard gold similar to gold used for edge fingers because our customer is concerned about wear and conductivity of connector

Nickel/Hard Gold thickness

I need to be sure of the Nickel/Hard Gold thickness to be specified on our drawing. We use hard gold on a slip ring pcb that has brushes riding over the conductive surface, so soldering is not the issue. I read through the hard gold vs immersion gold

gold wire bonding

You don't TS bond gold wire to nickel [of ENIG] for the same reason that you don't TS bond gold wire to hard gold. [Nickel or maybe cobalt is used to harden soft gold.] Together nickel and gold produce unreliable bonds. Look here: * http://www.smta.

Congratulations on your new customer. This could be a keeper. Here's what you're familiar with: Electroless Nickel - per MIL-C-26074 and ASTM-B733. Electroless nickel describes the plating of nickel deposits, which may contain phosphorus and boro
