soldering irons for lead free

Electronics Forum | Tue Jul 12 09:51:42 EDT 2005 | russ

We use the JBC irons with and without the "leadfree" tips. We really have not noticed much difference between the standard and the lead free. The lead free tips do last a little longer but the tips are somewhat deformed by the extra plating. As f

What is the best soldering gun?

Metcal? Really? I tried them, and found them to be lacking in ability for my needs. Soldering anything with a lot of copper resulted in the tip "sticking" to the PCB, and it was very slow to respond when in use. The JBC units might not be cheap, but

Personally I'd take a Metcal MX500 over a 130W JBC every day, and we had hundreds at the last place. However, here we have lots of JBC's, and my engineers and solderers swear by them. Both are good irons and like any you need to get your tip choice

The response from SolderingPRO is quite amusing, considering he's the OWNER of Promation, distributor of Quick soldering irons in the US. By the way, Quick is a cheap, Chinese knockoff brand that has virtually no support in other countries other than

Good Lead-Free soldering Iron???

I have looked at the JBC irons several months ago, and we will be getting a few of them for the people that do rework all day long, but for the general user around here all they are doing is touch-up and 500 bucks for an Iron for 50 people is a littl

Unlike Solderpro, I'll admit I'm just a bit biased towards PACE's new ADS200 High Powered Professional Soldering Station. Up to 120 Watts of pure power in an inexpensive, all metal package ($239 in the US), as powerful as a Metcal, JBC and Hakko, yet

what are your grading criterias? All of these work pretty good but have differences in the "bells and whistles" I like the Air-Vac DRS24 (no exp. with the 22) because of the large under heater and thermo-couple control. but it is very slow and costl

METCAL has a good unit, for BGA rework, and it uses Hot Air Reflow (convection). The pros and cons of Hot Air Vs IR, you can find easily ard u... em are ageless topics, happy debating. hint : good reasons why SMT Reflow Ovens, were IR switched to

BGA rework

Thanks, We currently use Metcals for our regular work and I was looking at the ERSA system for the BGA rework. From what I have seen it seems simple to use, and since it uses IR you dont need all the attachments for different size BGAs. You just
