I have been using an Air-Vac DRS-22 for almost two years with very good results. Once a profile is developed it is very repeatable. The DRS-22 is no longer available, however. It has been replaced by the DRS-24. Unfortunately, the DRS-24 has a lo

SPC/Calibration for BGA rework machine

You should check the optical alignment and thermal calibration of the BGA rework station periodically [every six months]. Likely, the equipment supplier gives recommendations on this calibration effort, maybe in the manual.

Lead free rework of BGA

Hi, I am having problems reworking a lead free PBGA (23mm x 23mm, 1mm pitch). The board is relatively small (5" X 4" X 0.063"). During the removal stage, a thermocouple was placed at the solder ball level (between the board and underneath of compo

Never heard of the DRS-22C. I have had a DRS-22 for several years now. Purchased it when we started doing BGA's. The operators like it - good optics (split view), built like a tank, X-Y table easy to manipulate for alignment. I like it because I ca

Our company wants to buy a rework station for BGA's. I would like to know what is a good BGA rework station. IR or hot air? Do we need a rework station with optical placement or can BGa's be placed manually during rework. We have seen a demo of an ER

I must say that I feel when the board has been correclty designed with corner marks on the edge of the BGA the optical systems are not necessary on 0.50/0.060" pitch. I like both air and IR the IR has the major benifit that you do not need all the ex

Rework Station for SMD PCBs

In order to be able to do full prototype assembly, you will need to be able to mount and reflow a large number of different devices of differing technology. One part might be a simple QFP, another might be a .4mm pitch uBGA. If you are prototyping a
