I agree with James. Granted there are a variety of lasers to try, we too could not get a consistent power setting. Plus when paste turns liquid, you get some reflection. Also the mask around the pad has to be pulled back or burning may occur.

We've been using lasers to mark barcodes on our boards for some time now. We use a CO2 laser to burn through the solder mask on most of our boards. The machine is enclosed so the operators aren't exposed to the laser. The laser is also mounted on

For laser marking you dont require as powerful lasers then for cutting. A 20 Watt laser diode does already a good job. Because of the safety requirements the laser operates in an enclosure, which means more $$$ if you want to use the laser in line

In a previous life we burned bar-codes on PCB with a CO2 laser. Initially we placed a small white epoxy pad to burn the code into. After some experimentation we found that we could eliminate the epoxy and just burn through the soldermask and the un

Have you got some experience with using laser (CO2 or fiber one) to label with barcode your PCBs ? So far I thought it is easy process but now we do tests with many PCBs covered with diffrent soldermasks and fiber laser as well as CO2 has same probl

Hi all, my site using x-ray machine "Agilent 5DX Series 5". The tester will hang around 10- 15 min during perform automatic startup at level "Delta Z". My site, we already change Front & Rear laser, burn galil, performed manual startup, total shutdow

We looking for a new technology Laser PCB cutting. We have tried some laser equipment and the result was burn PCB. Can anyone suggest the best laser manufacturer for this application and if you have tried this process? Your help is highly appreciate

We have started switching all our PCB marking from labels to Laser marking. We have a silkscreen patch put on the boards then use a CO2 laser to burn the mark off to produce the barcode. Our marking downtime has gone from an average of 8 hours a we

It is also possible to etch the barcodes directly on the PCB by using a laser. The solder resist mask is easily burned by laser and if there is copper underneath the contrast is quite good. The contrast is satisfactory even if there is no metal under

Nate, If your stencil vendor has laser-cutting capabilities, they should be able to burn in your fiducial locations. This process involves re-setting the focus of the laser beam to burn the locations 1-3 mils into the surface (as opposed to 1/2 cut
