You are technically correct eutectic Sn/Pb was discovered by the ancient Egyptians in (XXX) BC much longer then 20 centuries. I was just referring to soft soldering in the electronics assembly industry :-).

Been loading lead free (steel, bismuth) for a couple of yrs. now. Our Wildlife division went ROHS on the waterfowl hunting some time ago. So now we just wound geese and ducks and let them die somewhere that they are of no use except coyote food!

Sorry to contradict your suggestion but the Asahi 300 series alloys contain indium which is both very expensive and has very limited availability.

Density. There is a difference between lead (.410 lbs. per cubic inch) and tin (.254 lbs. per cubic inch). The same volume of tin-based solder, therefore, weighs approximately 1/4 less than a lead-based material. This adds up to more joints per pound

Actually it's not rare. I use several pastes from various manufacturers that add 2% silver in their leaded pastes. I would bet it's 2% silver.
