Mirror image BGA connectors

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 09 12:36:26 EDT 2001 | Michael Parker

Adam- Mikie here. I too am placing 2 PBGA sockets on an assembly but they aren't mirror imaged. Thanks to the SMT Gods for that one. You say you added more paste to solve for open solder. Do you have x-ray? Were the alignments perfect? Also the part

Solder Cracks

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 19 11:57:35 EDT 2001 | Gil Zweig

As you probably know, x-ray inspection has problems positivly identifying cracks or delamination. This task is more suited to scanning laser acoustical microscopy but the cost is very high. It has been our experience that cracks are associated with t

AOI vs. XRay

Genny, I would like to correct part of the things that you were told. As far as I know, X-Ray tools are not positioned as tools to find solder volume simply because it is not a strong point for them. An X-Ray image is either a projection (2D transm

ERSA scope?

Electronics Forum | Sat Aug 18 23:40:22 EDT 2001 | CAL

We at ACI have both endoscopes and xray. We have used the ERSA Scope often and it is a great machine, but the cost is hard to justify the ROI.The ERSA Scope is in the $28K to $32K range. I had a chance to see OC Whites Endoscope and it was cool.Pric

ICT and specifying PCBA testing

Electronics Forum | Mon Mar 29 12:10:14 EDT 2010 | rway

Test Jet will work for catching lifted leads, certainly. X-ray is the only thing for testing for internal solder defects such as voids and cracks. I personally do not have any experience using X-ray, so I cannot advise on its reliability. Perhaps

I would recommend looking at SAKI/MacroScience. http://www.xraytechnology.eu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34&Itemid=42 I have seen the images created by MSX3000 from MacroScience which is now under SAKI and can tell you with certainty

BGA Reflow

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 08 10:57:20 EDT 2011 | pcbrookie

We recently got our last BGA X-Ray results back (no X-ray in house yet) and had more than one board/BGA look like the attached image. The balls on one corner are completely collapsed (so much so that bridges appear) and raised on the opposite corner
