Reflow profiles are based on the product and materials you are soldering. You need profiling software and a data logger.

Managing Thermocouple wires during reflow profiling

His suggestion is that you come into the 21st century and buy a data logger rather than feeding wires through the entire reflow oven. That is old school and it is very cumbersome as you undoubtedly know. If you are in a position where a logger is no

Hello Brad, We are running the Slim Kic 2000. We have found the predictions to be fairly accurate as long as the suggested change is within 20 degrees of the original recipie. As a test I ran a board with the wrong profile. The predictions got me wi

Thermal Profiler Shield

All data loggers will be warmer at the higher lead free temps. Only two ways around this... better thermal barriers or fans after the profile to cool it down. Some places do not allow fans on the production floor due to static electricity, in that

IIRC the IPC spec for oven profiling says the thermocouple leads should not be more than one meter in length. I think when you can afford it, getting a data logger to go through the oven would be a good idea. But if you are going to use the very lon

Thanx aj and Russ. I will verify my ramp up/down degC/sec and the soak zone peak temp. Fluxes could be burning off prior to activation. I have found access to an old thermal data logger to help verify the Heller thermocouples. I will post updated fi

Humidity in SMT room

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 16 18:14:45 EST 2006 | Geo E

We have just purchased a humidity logger and I need to know what the relitive humidity should be in a SMT production area. The Room is enclosed approx. 60ft by 30ft using ESD Floor tile. 3 machines are in the room as well as some Thru hole machines.

Why reinvent the wheel, Bart? You can buy a thermal barrier from one of the logger manufacturers (M.O.L.E., KIC, DataPAQ, etc). They come in varying sizes and temperature ratings. Maybe you can find one that suits your unit. Good luck.

profiler for vapor phase

We do the same as LarryD. All the profilers I have seen that have thermal jackets deemed capable of going through and helping the logger survive the VP process have a lot of mass. This mass will affect the profile considerably.

You must thermally profile your circuit boards with a data-logger and thermocouples. Just putting in oven set points and looking at solder joints is not enough. Reference IPC-7530
