I don't think there is a standard, too many variables, but I could be wrong. I believe ERSA wrote a technical article that deals with double drop. You can probably find it just by doing a web search.

Chris, What's the board finish? HASL? What's the frequency of solder beading, like how many joints soldered exhibit these solder beads- percentage wise. Are the boards clean- nobody is touching them with greasy fingers? We need more clues.

I hated no-clean for that reason. Yea, the boards are pretty clean and in many cases don't need cleaning but it's not worth it when you consider what it does to your ovens in my opinion. Do water soluable fluxes cause the same havoc in a re-flow?

Kevin If you want to go automated then why not take a look at the Philips ACM. It is the flagship for placing SMT and Oddform packages. We use Vacuum nozzles and Grippers to handle many truly oddform components.
