Reworking BGA's

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 21 17:53:19 EDT 2011 | action_101

I would like some input on reworking BGA's and the best method. I have reworked BGA's since 1998 using both micro stencils and just flux dipping the parts. I have reworked SN/PB and lead-free (AIM NC258) BGA's for the last 8 yrs. with just flux. I ha

What temp. are you planning on baking them? If this is long term process I would recommend that you hav trays made out of an appropriate ESDS material that can withstand your bake temp (such as duropol)for your QFPs. You can have several patterns/pa

We are also interested in this, but where can we find the dimensions? We have thouht about some kind of a guideline to simplify the way of how we do the "Matrix tray numbers" input to our fine pitch machine. We do a lot of prototype production and ev

Does anyone have or know of any published guidelines for BGA layout on PWB's so that they can be tested. Specifically using micro vias? If anyone has any input regarding other test considerations for BGA devices I'd like to hear from you as well. W

We have placed them before. You can only inspect the perimeter, but with the larger pitch in wasn't a problem. We also picked off matrix trays, but the BGA's we did had no center array. But if that type are on T&R it should work as well.

Hello mrmaint You say that you do 100% incoming inspection at your site, Do you open every tray and look on the writing on every type of component? If you open the bag, how do you close it again (vacuum machine)? What is the inspection process? (Only

Post a simple CAD picture of a BGA or IC on the door of the machine near where it gets loaded. This has helped us. Flash IC's can also be difficult as you can't always put pin one near front, left of tray slot. So... we always say pin one left no
