I have a lot of experience with Mirtec's 2D machines and these were pretty good. 3D is supposed to be even better in detecting defects.

Also note , KY is SPI company and there 3D technology is just SPI tweaked to do 3D AOI, same can be said of Mirtec but bit better than KY. Generally they are slow in capture and this is why in EU and say high volume sites 3D has not penetrated much.

Great posting. We're looking at AOI for the first time and are trying to understand the pros/cons of 2D, 2D+, and 3D. M, can you discuss what size parts are too small for the Mirtec MV-3L?
