I beleive it's Organic Acid

Inductive effect is the electron attraction force between chemical moieties. Inductive effect in flux activator would stabilize the dissociated organic acid, thus enhance the acidity, therefore increase the flux activity.

I will second the previous answer that it stands for Organic Acid. "Acid" being the key word as to why it must be thoroughly cleaned.

Any decent flux would volatise off with the heat of the wave unless absorbed into the solder mask. Test this by trying to clean in alcohol or common solvent aerosol, if it does not clean then it is probably Mineral Salts from solder mask fillers. Ano

Brian: SMTnet has a "Terms & Definitions" section in the "Library." OA Flux. Flux, Organic Acid. A water soluble flux. Good luck Dave F

We have seen leakage currents around parts that have high impedance. Evidently with a small amount of moisture, weak organic acids present in the flux residue can cause a low leakage.

true in the olden days, new osp's have excellent thermal stability. they are thinned or removed by organic acids mainly. contrary to believe due to the higher tin content they do tend to work well with lead free better than leaded used to. cheers gre

As I know, the encapsulation effect occurs only with rosin based fluxes. So if you have a PBA soldered using RA Flux, you should either wash it well, or leave it alone and it will be safe. For NC process the story is different because theres no re

Sorry to disappoint. No-Clean fluxes are resin-based. They are not soluble in water. Water soluble fluxes are by nature Organic Acid and are soluble in water AND must be cleaned within a short period after reflow as they remain conductive and corrosi

very difficult to say that all no cleans must be cleaned for reliability. Cleaning in its own right causes many problems i.e leaving wax residues and activators from incorrectly cleaned no clean pastes, terrible to get off. Decent no clean liquid flu
