I have no knowledge into PCB designing with surface mount components, all my experience has been with through hole components. I now have to design PCBs using surface mount parts. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer. Can a PCB w

This could be the reason for the mask defined pad. ERROR in docs! This happens a lot. I believe this to be case honestly, I would not use mask defined pads for these. If you get a registration shift in mask which is likely you will run into troub

Yes, the solder pad on the PCB should match the pad on the part. This will minimize stress during the soldering process. Check out more on http://www.smtinfocus.com/papers_pbga.html Here you will fond some more informations on the process used in r

Did you try the online-calculator at the IPC-page. If you have the datasheet it should be no problem. For wave soldering I cant tell if its suitable for that particular part, but you should add extra pads at the end of each column to solderbridging
