Our board layout folks are currently designing a PWB using a 132 QFN. The component is .5mm pitch with .35mm square pads. The component manufacturer recommends the following footprint: .4mm square land .3mm square solder resist 1.why do they spec

I recently did a layout for a Freescale accelerometer and the mfg recommended pad layout did something similar. They where very specific in the pad layout dimensions. They stated the reason was "With the correct footprint, the packages will self-alig

We believe that many manufacturers' recommended pads should be close to the last resort. Recommendations are: * Standardize with the IPC guidelines or those by Jim Blankenhorn [ smtplus.com ]. Anyone that wants to change from that standard needs to

Ben, I'm not aware of any 'automatic' method to convert PTH footprints to SMT. Typically, many of the components are passives, and there may be a way in your CAD software to change the passives of a common size to a different footprint. That will co

Hi, Is the footprint per the component manufacturers recommendations? The reason I ask is because it kinda looks like the pads are extending beneath the component. Could cause the part to float up on top of the solder and not allow the leads to wet

I have a customer want to add an SMD coil to the board, which they used to hand soldering all the time. I want to know is there footprint/land pattern size that I should follow? Any recommendation?

I am designing a component for surface mount. Does anybody out there specialize in the design of passive components for SMT? Can you recommend a good reference?

You can adjust to 45mm clearance, But I would recommend staying at 25mm if working with fine pitch and smaller passive components.
