dear all, we prepare ourself to assembly IMS board The PCB design with V cut How to depanelisy it? With scoring machine or manual breaking? Any experience Thanks Gbor

To prevent cracking SMD components near the edge of PCB you should use guillotine for V-cut groove. Other solution is redesign panel of PCBs and in critical areas you should mill along the outline instead of V-cut, but if you choose this way probabl

If you are facing problem of craked capacitor only after breaking of the panel into individual PCB's, this may be due to stress being generated on the capacitors terminals. The stress may be due excess pressure being applied on the panel for breaking

Just a basic suggestion.... Inspect the nozzle placing the component...because that is the only medium, apart from the PCB design, which can be causing the damage. It occurred in my Department.

We just had this issue a couple months ago with a single sided FR-4 board which was scored. We found that the design was a factor but also the depth of the v-score. Since then we have re-designed the part further away from the score line. At the same

Thank you for the above information but what I want to talk about is the PCB design aspect. Should there be any warning about it in the DFM?

Hello, I would like to ask you about the minimal distance between components and border of pcb especially V-cut to avoid crack of component during depaneling? I need some standard (IPC or something) where is this defined? Thank you for your support

It depends. Are you hand breaking them, rotary knife or linear knife? Hand break you want to be about 5mm (and it isn't a great practice even then) with a rotart knife you want to keep parts probably 3mm, especially capacitors. With a linear knife we

Dougie, If you have square, rectangular etc; shaped PCB's maybe you could have routing between circuits. "V" shaped grooves top and bottom. I found this extremely good especially if the assemblies are wave soldered. No gaps for flowing up and over.

Use a router with fiducial correction? in reality if you are putting a PCB in a plastic enclosure then the injection moulding is going to have far greater tolerances than a laser or router depanelised PCB is. Also, if our laser markers are anything
