Thermal relief question

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 08 17:35:04 EDT 2016 | slthomas

We all know that whenever possible, we want thermal relief between the barrel/pad and the copper foil to make it easier to properly solder that through hole connector. My question is, assuming there is no connection from the barrel to a copper layer

Interesting, see we used to do a large amount of PTH but we have been able to convert most of those parts to SMT now. the majority of our PTH is connectors. I am doing some research as to the types of through hole assembly that still remain.- This d

Hi "some customers/designers want to have via holes to be present in the PCB pad, due to some belief that it helps in heat dissipation. " As I think about this I don't know exactly why they would be concerned. I can imagine in some exotic products

I concern about the Through Hole soldering as well. Currently, we have encountered some problems of Multilayer from Through Hole soldering. The root-cause is probably related to PCB Finish, machine setting, Thermal relief Pad or hole and something e

Hello, I would like to design the thermal reliefs/pads of my through-hole components. I would appreciate any info, doc or link about how design them (dimensions, slit width, circular or square, etc). Thanks a lot and best regards, Javi

As in more dwell? We see the same problem with through holes connected to power or ground planes. The solder reaches the plane and stops. We are having our boards re-designed to increase the thermal relief and expand the hole size. We are also tr

Get-out the razor blades, bud. You could run that sukka for 6 sec dwell, cook breakfast on it, and you still will not get fill. [Hole file that is, breakfast will go along ways if peckish, though.] You could fire-up the depleted ozone rework gun [

| | Hello: | | BACKGROUD: SMT components soldered on the top-side of boards that also require wave soldering have the potential to reflow during wave soldering. Reflowing these components during wave soldering is not good. It can cause cold joints

Designers love to do BIG copper pours for several reasons: * Maximize heat spreading. * Increase EMI shielding. * Laziness. The poor folk that solder the parts on boards HATE big copper planes near solder pads. During soldering, fat copper traces [
