Soldering nickel strip

Electronics Forum | Mon Apr 28 09:59:04 EDT 2003 | davef

Your customer's question is reasonable. Soldering to nickel is not always a walk on the beach [can of corn, or whatever]. This issue is flux not solder. Your Sn63 will have plenty of strength, providing the solder connection is well formed. You s

Shelf life of electro-plated tin-lead on stainless steel

Once you have selected your plating based on electrical and physical requirments, you should know that there is an inexpensive plastic storage packaging developed by Lucent which can keep any platings solderability from degrading for up to 10 years o

Shelf life of electro-plated tin-lead on stainless steel

Electronics Forum | Fri Nov 07 15:57:56 EST 2003 | Marc Simmel

Are there specifications or recommendations for electro-deposited tin-lead plating thickness on austenitic stainless steel that would provide a shelf life of 1 year? 6 months? Would 2 to 3 microns (78 to 118 micro-inches) 90/10 tin-lead over 1.27 mi

Soldering to a nickel plated battery terminal

Electronics Forum | Mon Apr 21 16:38:45 EDT 2014 | barryg

Hello all. We have been having some problems soldering to what we believe is a nickel plated spring steel battery terminal to a PCB. We have tried scrapping , then tinning, dipping and still have problems. Are there any special fluxes or pre-treats t

No we have a battery spring that is soldered directly to a PCB (standard tin plated copper PCB). The Battery spring supplier (and I have no confirmation he makes them or buys them) claims they are tin plated. When trying to solder to them it is very

Ultimate Work Bench from a GSM

We recently parted out a GSM machine that we could not get operational. As parts came off of the machine it looked like the frame would make the world's strongest welding/work table. We stripped the frame bare and flipped it over instead of scrapping

| I normally handle the soldering issues for this facility but a question was asked of me -- What the H@## is this stuff and what is causing it? Was wondering of I could get some input from any Guru on plating issues. Need info ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Dave said stainless steel can not be soldered using fluxes designed for electronics. The only way this could be done is to spot plate copper or tin where you want to make the solder connection.

All, The reason SS (stainless steel) was being considered is - customer wnats to reduce Ni or basically eliminate it. Anyway, seems that soldering SS for electronics is not going to be an easy option. Suggestions for different plating has been forwa
