One of our board fab houses is asking (again) to eliminate the reference designators and polarity markings from boards. This isn't feasible for thru-hole, but what is the industry trend on surface mount assemblies?

For upside down and rotated parts try using the index mark (F6) in the package database for that component, at least then the machine should look for a unique feature on the bottom and if it cannot find it the part will be rejected. For the index ma

I don't know about a poster, but we just print the Data Sheet for parts with questionable polarity markings. Just remember, that not all SMT LEDs are marked by Cathode. We have ONE LED that we use that the manufacturer puts a dot on the anode side.

Hello, I know I will probably get a dozen "check the archives" answers, but what the heck. What is YOUR typical polarity mark for SMT devices? Do you use silk screen or cut a corner off a pad? Let me know and thanks.

We are just looking for something to get trainees familiar with the different polarity marking so they know what to look for.

I am looking for a poster (or anything) that shows Polarity Markings for different SMT Components. I would like something for SMT Operators and SMT Setup to be able to look at when training or when they are questioning the polarity of a part. If anyb
