Golden Finger contamination with Solder after reflow

Electronics Forum | Mon Nov 13 14:58:56 EST 2017 | davef

Determine the origin of the solder * Sloppy paste printing technique * Lax stencil underside cleaning practices * Sloppy misprint cleaning practices * Poor part placement practices creating solder balls * Poor material control allowing solder p

estimate solder thickness

Boots: Here's several methods for guessing at the amount of solder on your connection: * First, 'Down & Dirty' ** Assume that the solder is flat, which is reasonable since it's 'flattened' by the component package ** Assume 100% paste transfer from t

Soldering Iron Questions

Electronics Forum | Fri Nov 03 14:02:35 EST 2006 | russ

The temp your iron is set at is somewhat irrelevant, it is the temp at the tip right? We use metcals and have 700 deg tips for leadfree. As you may know Metcal temp is at the tip and not a heating element seperate from the tip like many irons are.

Reusing Solder Paste

Electronics Forum | Fri Sep 13 12:30:05 EDT 2002 | bobm

I have heard a lot of different stories about reusing solder paste. I take what is left on the screener at the end of the day (yes i try to watch the amounts that are put down)and transfer it to a clean solder paste jar. I would like to hear any inpu

Ben, Get a copy of IPC 7525 and review it. This will help you understand the relationship of aperture geometry to paste transfer. Good Luck, Greg

Oven for lead free...???

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 13 14:02:28 EST 2004 | DasonC

Question: If we run the same oven to run both lead free and lead paste. Will any lead contamination transfer to the lead free board by force conversion?

SMT REWORK

Electronics Forum | Thu Apr 06 13:33:10 EDT 2006 | marla

Hello Dougs: Have you tried stenciling solder paste to the BGA part itself. You will find this most helpful for your heat transfer and attachment integrity of the component in a Pb free process.

SMT LEAD FREE PRINTING

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 03 11:39:19 EDT 2006 | slthomas

Is your squeegee cleaning process adequate to guarantee no transfer of paste residue between jobs? Personally I wouldn't risk it, but then again it's easy for me to say since we don't do lead free.

Agilent 5DX
