Does anyone have any insight on alternatives to Indium NC-SMQ 92J solder paste for minimizing poor wetting on parts with oxidized leads (see datasheet here: http://www.dtsprocess.com/contents/articlefiles/6-SMQ92j.pdf). I am considering setting up a

I am a big fan of AIM SnPb solder paste. I currently use NC257-2 (no-clean, 89.5%), and recommend you include it in your evaluations.

Im thinking Poor intermatallic It could be a few things. Lets start at the beginning. -Is your paste a 63/37 mixture? -Have you monitored you screen printing, Verify Solder deposition, Are you getting enough paste? -You say the solder looks like i

| Yes l know this problem keeps cropping up on the forum but l've missed some of the follow-ups. | | Our problem is that the lifting only occurs on 3% of production so actually detecting an improvement is difficult. We're actually having to inspect

Sounds like you're talking about the "heel" of the lead not being soldered, in other words, no heel fillet, which IS necessary. That problem, for us, was attributed primarily to poor layout (insufficient length of pad extension to provide room for

If you are certain that reflow process is good, I would suggest starting checking the following: 1. Check to see if leads / pads are contaminated or oxidized. However, this usually results poor solder quality throughout the board. 2. Check the amou

I have been getting non wets on fine pitch QFP packages on random leads during reflow process. I noticed that every time there is some flux residue left between the non-wet lead and the solder pad. No residue was not observed on the rest of the good

Check for coplaner leads if this just exists at reflow process, i.e. look at part before oven, turn on 3D at placement machine. If you see after wave solder, the wave could cause coplanarity issues on top as well if you are going slow enough to refl

Thanks for the ideas guys. My QC inspector can take a pick and move the back part of the lead....even though the front of the lead is soldered enough to hold. There is SOME NOT ALL areas where there is no solder on the curved portion of the lead. The
