RoHS Board Delamination

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 24 08:51:34 EDT 2006 | markb

aj, Did you have to implement a pre-bake operation prior to SMT? Or did the new batch work just fine with your current process? Just curious if we should be implementing a pre-bake process, or keep pushing on our supplier...or both. Thanks, Mark

Selective Solder Machines

Hi Taint, Both machines work OK. The big thing you may over look is pre-heat. Things like flux spatter/boil tend to come into play if you don't pre-heat. Change over, ease of programming, and service are also things to think of.

we set the pre heaters the same as the Electrovert. On the SHEO wave solder it is a much longer conveyor so we only turned on the last two pre heaters to match the Electrovert

Are you interested in trimming pre-solder or post solder? Roto Form Corp. which I believe is located in Tennessee. This machine incorporates a small rotary cutting head for post solder trimming. Otherwise pre-solder trimming is required suggest co

In general, no. If you've got the right BGA rework equipment, you should be able to locally heat the part area that you're reworking. Though, if you're finding defects related to thermal stress, it might not be a bad idea to pre-heat the rest of th

Not in our case, the pre-heat temp was not high enough. Also our pre-heat is only from top (KISS104).

Hand-Solder Pre-Heat

Mornin! We just had vendor in here pitching a "low-temperature rework system" which was intriguing, but too expensive. He did get me to thinking though, beyond heating ceramic caps before hand-soldering them, it seems like it would be advantag

Pre-bake of Polyimide flex ? ?

Electronics Forum | Wed Dec 22 18:09:07 EST 2004 | kmorris

At a previous job I had been taught that when reflow soldering polyimide flex circuits, it was necessary to pre-bake them before reflow soldering to prevent delamination. Our procedures said that there must be a 1hr bake prior to reflow, and the flex

My experience with different size boards and pre-heaters. The perfect world (right?) you would saturate the complete pcb with bottom pre-heat. But it is difficult with repair and rework equipment, not to mention the expense and foot print of large pr
