Paul We don't like to mix metals on press fits. Yano, we do gold on gold or solder on solder, but we don't mix metals [except with imm silver / tin] to avoid electrochemical corrosion. Is that bad information or does AMP think that's not a problem

the pin manufacturer usually recommends the proper hole size. the hole diameter should be from .001" to .003" undersize depending on the design of the contact area on the pin.

Wow, that must be a lot of HASL to reflow and block a thru-hole. Sounds like your board house changed their process. Contact your board house about this. Change your incoming spec to look for this a well.

It does looks like a arbor press. It's a customized one to be exact, pins there to fits the fixture.
