I am having a problem remembering what temp to pretin components at. This is for SN63. I thought I used 450F, but this company says 500.

Curious, but thoughts are: * Your pretinning pot is loaded with gold that has been removed from lead over a period of time * Your failed solder connections are caused by something else other that gold intermetallics * Your tinning process is undiscip

I look for specification for degolding - pretinning for SMT and through hole parts (in the military sector) . I found IPC JSTD 001 and some ECSS ...08 but without visual real criterias on the product. Thanks for your inputs .

If there is a way to pre-tin the parts, that might help in forming better joint with gold.

Try to pre-tin the part. This should give you a lot of answers.

We're having a lot of problems with failed solder joints to gold-plated MOSFET leads. Gold plate thickness spec is 60uin, but we've seen as much as 200uin in cross-section, so we're obviously concerned about gold embrittlement issues. Pre-tinning w

Hello All, I recently had a case of excessive tin coming from a solder pot sample. The solder is SN63 but the results of testing had a 64.97% for Sn. The J-STD-001 spec is 61.5% to 64.5%. The pot is used to pre-tin wires which will then be solder

Dave, anything besides gold embrittlement to be concerned about if that concentration is exceeded? Never tried the stuff.

IMHO, this finish is more cosmetically appealing than technically desirable (and VERY profitable for the PCB maker). That editorial comment aside, you're correct. Increasing the concentration of gold: * Hardens the solder. * Increases the liquidou
