0402

It's normal for us when we review design. We have found that in the Y axis we need .015" whereas in the X axis we can use .005" spacing. this relates to our nozzle size vs. pickup skew etc... This wouldn't apply if there are parts taller than XXX

0402 tombstones

Electronics Forum | Wed Apr 15 17:16:00 EDT 2009 | rmitchell

Hi, I am trying to reduce some 0402 cap tombstones. The main cause is the pad spacing is a little too far apart and the parts are as tall as they are wide .5mm I am stuck with the pad spacing for a while. All other parts are soldering well, even 0

Minimum gap between 0402 parts

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 18 11:55:35 EDT 2000 | Ricardo Fuentes

Hi! cold someone advise me about the minimum gap allowable in between 0404 parts. The minimum distance is because of the behavior on reflow, the re-work difficulty or anything else. Thanks

0402 Adhesive Screen Printing

I've never printed adhesive but I assume that aspect ratio still plays a part with release. Maybe that .006" is just to thick to get good release. Can you step your stencil down from .006" to .004" or .005" for the 0402's?

Printing for 0402

We're just now beginning to see 0402's in our designs. Can anyone make recommendations on stencil/aperture designs and print parameters? I'm seeing skips on a small number of joints on these parts. Thanks in advance, John

You could reduce the paste by about 70%. Solder balling and tombstoning will be the issues to fight. The drivers to these don't change with the component size. Use the fine SMTnet Archives for background. Aperture Size and Thickness of Solder Pas

Davef, You have a good question. If we had perfect design engineers out there that would use the proper component spacing and not put SMT parts between and around thru-hole parts - glue and wave would work perfectly. I have done this with great su

Glad to hear a little success from ya Duckmann! i have stenciled mask in the past and I can tell you that stencils are expensive. They are basically a step stencil, you will need full thickness for the area(s) you are going to apply mask and you wi
