We assume the three leads are lined-up perpendicular to the wave. Without taking corrective action, we know this: * 50 thou pitch will bridge * DIP do not bridge As a corrective action that doesn't invovle a respin of the board, decrease the solderm

Most of the PTH components are manually inserted. Some are auto-placed by our UIC machine. The parts are preped before install, so there is no need to trim the leads afterwards. The boards go through wave solder. The UIC machine has a clincher on

Interesting, see we used to do a large amount of PTH but we have been able to convert most of those parts to SMT now. the majority of our PTH is connectors. I am doing some research as to the types of through hole assembly that still remain.- This d

Wave solder - Initially high cost but after that it is relatively cheap. Selective soldering with a solder pot such as the Air-Vac PCBRM models - Much lower cost than wave but if you get the right nozzles it is a great process. Solder preforms - s

Pete, I'm wondering how much optimisation you needed (or were allowed) to do with respect to connector design. The first one we evaluated had a row of leads that I can only describe as "crescent" shaped in cross section. Impossible to get even 50%

Let's talk pin holes and blow holes. I've been here since the transistion of leaded to lead-free process started for our company and we purchased a wave machine just to keep up with our lead-free orders. we put out 500-1000 boards a day both leaded a

Hi BR, Are you screen printing adhesive to the bottom of the board? If so, have your stencil make put openings between the leads of the thru-hole part. SMT adhesive acts as a natural solder resist. So placing a small sliver between the pads works

I have 15 very large backplanes (.156" thick Au plating) that the ground pins of a high density thru-hole connector were not thermal relieved in the artwork. As a result we are unable to solder the 8 pins that connect to the ground plane. We know t
